Picture
Joy Hill is a native of Cayce, South Carolina. Her late father, John Calvin Hill, was deaf and graduated from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind (SCSDB) in Spartanburg, SC. Her late mother, Annie Joyce Hill, was hard of hearing and also attended SCSDB. As a Child of Deaf Adult (CODA), her first language was American Sign Language which she learned through communicating with her parents. At the age of six Joy's parents discovered that she had lost her hearing due to illness and was fitted with a hearing aid. She grew up attending many Deaf events with her parents. Joy graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School and previously worked in the structural steel industry as an Office Administrator for over 20 years until the plant closed. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her two dogs.  Joy has been working at SCAD since 2013.
