​You must contact the interpreters on the list below. The SCAD does not contact the interpreters or set up arrangements. The terms and conditions of the interpreters' services are solely between the service user and the service provider. 
Q: Does SCAD provide Interpreters? A: No. SCAD provides the list only after screening the interpreters. 
Q: Is SCAD an Interpreter Agency? A: No. 
Q: I am Deaf and my Doctor's office said I have to bring my own interpreter. Am I suppose to?
A: No. Per ADA requirements, the Doctor's office must provide effective communication. They can use the interpreter list to hire an interpreter.

​Hospitals and health care facilities regulated by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (now known as SC Dept of Public Health) must provide certifed interpreters. 

Legislative Updates
 43.243.2 Educational Interpreters for Students Who are Deaf

 The Notice of Drafting was published in the State Register on July 26, 2024.
 
SCAD & SCRID worked with the SC Department of Education to draft Regulation for Educational Interpreters. Met with the SCDE Board. Met with the Legislators. Met with Stakeholders to discuss changes. The regulation changes were ratified by the State Board of Education in May 2025 and returned to the legislature. This will establish the Code of Law Section 59-33-120 January 26, 2026. Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year the EIPA rating of 3.5 or higher is required. Full details are in the regulations.
