Q: Is SCAD a state government agency?
A: No.
SC Association of the Deaf, Inc. (SCAD) is a non-profit organization and the state affiliate of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD). The SCAD board of directors are elected by the SCAD members every two years. The board of directors are volunteers. The SCAD office has two staff employees.
Q: Does SCAD provide interpreting services?
A: No. SCAD provides a list of interpreters here. Doctor's office, hospital, schools, lawyers, and others must contact those on the list to make arrangements and hire interpreters to provide "effective communication" for the deaf and hard of hearing. See ADA information here.
Q. Does SCAD have client services?

Q: I am looking for Deaf and Hard of Hearing events in my area. Where can I find that information?
A: SCAD has a list of Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities and organizations throughout South Carolina. Some areas may have continuous monthly events at one place. Others have different locations and dates. Visit the organization's pages to see their events.
